Mar Polus III Nona Elected as Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon
On April 12, 2026, the Synod of Chaldean Bishops elected Bishop Emile Shimoun Nona as the new Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church, entrusting him with leadership during a critical time for the Chaldean community both in Iraq and the diaspora. His Grace has chosen the name of His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Paulos III Nona.
His election signals a continuation of the Church’s ancient legacy, rooted in the historic See of Babylon, while also reflecting the need for unity, stability, and renewed direction amid ongoing challenges facing Christians in the Middle East.
Representing Chaldeans around the world, we pray for Mar Nona to lead our Church in a good faith and a positive direction that upholds our values in Christianity and our ancient Chaldean heritage.
