May officially designated as Chaldean-American heritage month in Michigan
On May 22nd, 2025, State Representative Tom Kuhn, of the Republican Party in Troy, MI, introduced House Bill 4303 to name the month of May as “Chaldean-American Month” in Michigan.
Rep. Kuhn testified before the House Government Operations Committee on behalf of his bill, stating that “Chaldean-Americans are a cornerstone of Michigan’s cultural, economic, and civic life, especially in Southeast Michigan.” He highlighted that Michigan is home to “the largest Chaldean population in the world outside of Iraq, with more than 187,000 residents in Macomb and Oakland counties alone.”
House Bill 4303 aimed to declare the month of May each year as “Chaldean-American Month” to highlight the contributions of Chaldean-Americans to Michigan.
“Their deep-rooted faith and family values remain a defining part of our communities,” stated Kuhn. “They are leaders in business, law, medicine, education, and public service, and they are building strong families, strong communities, and a stronger Michigan.”
